President Trump said Saturday that he will no longer confront Russian President Vladimir Putin over his nation’s alleged interference in the 2016 presidential election.
Trump said he takes Putin at his word that Russia did not interfere in the presidential election that sent him to the White House.
The President said there were bigger issues that the two leaders should focus on.
“He said he didn’t meddle. He said he didn’t meddle. I asked him again. You can only ask so many times,” Trump said aboard Air Force One as he traveled from Da Nang to Hanoi in Vietnam.
“Every time he sees me, he says, ‘I didn’t do that,’ ” Trump said. “And I believe, I really believe, that when he tells me that, he means it.”
