Biggest Tax Hike in American History??
posted by Ed Staff | Friday, June 29, 2012

aca-signingWe hear that phrase every single time a new government program passes -- it's the largest tax increase in American history -- every time a fiscally responsible President refuses to give more tax cuts to the wealthy and the corporations... essentially any time something happens the Republicans don't like... They find a way to refer to it as the biggest tax increase in American history.

1982 - Ronald Reagan raised taxes with the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act. Republicans who disagreed with him called it the largest tax increase in American history.

1993 - Bill Clinton's Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993.  They referred to it as the largest tax increase in American history.

2007 - Just criticizing the budget, Republicans insisted it was going to be the largest tax hike in American history.

2010 - Campaigning to prevent the sunset of the Bush tax cuts, Republicans accused President Obama of pushing the largest tax increase in American history (as if allowing a law to sunset, as designed, amounts to a tax increase)

2012 - Following the Supreme Court's affirmation of the Affordable Care Act, Republicans immediately started lambasting it as the largest tax hike in American history. It isn't. Not even close. It amounts to $695 per year for the average family affected by the mandate. And the Payroll Tax Cut which the Republicans blocked earlier this year would have been about $1500 for the average family.

We could go on and on with this list. Of the largest tax increases in American history, the Affordable Care Act wouldn't even be in the top ten. With population growth, cost of living, rising wages, and the growth of the US economy all taken into account, the largest increases imposed on the American people are -- and have always been -- the tax increases we endured to pay for World War II. The best estimates as of now are that the mandate may affect 2 to 5 percent of Americans. Romneycare in Masschusetts has a penalty too, and it is estimated to hit one percent of the state.

So when you hear a Republican claiming the Affordable Care Act is the largest tax increase on the middle class in American history, just remember this. It's $695 a year, only on people who don't already have insurance, and of those people who don't have insurance, it's only on those who refuse to buy it. Of the people who refuse to buy it, it's only a tax on those who aren't exempt due to poverty.

Doesn't sound like the largest tax increase in American history to us.

The Republican Party is on record for recently voting against tax cuts for the middle class..........that is a fact.............it was just a couple of years ago......time to point out the facts......and point out the fact that Republicans voted down tax cuts for the middle class.

Let me repeat that: an estimated 360,000 small employers who will receive the credit in 2011 alone.

Its really a TAX BREAK:

Small Business Tax Credits: Small businesses have long paid a premium price for health insurance – often 18 percent more than larger employers. The tax credit will benefit an estimated 2 million workers who get their insurance from an estimated 360,000 small employers who will receive the credit in 2011 alone.

They get up in the morning lying, and go to bed lying, and their stupid sheep follower's eat up every word. Now they are going after Holder presumably to keep him from interfering in voter purging. Republican's, the party of cheaters and liars. They may not like what they find when they start rooting around the files on a program started by the previous administration. The Obama Administration may be playing Possum. . If they released them with anything below a CONTEMPT charge with fodder against the Bushies, they would be accused by the moronic right as "playing politics" again.

According to Yahoo News: "The Dow surges more than 200 points after Eurozone leaders agree to bail out banks and EASE AUSTERITY MEASURES."

I get a kick out of the right when they run around saying we are number 1 and screaming number 1 usa usa usa and yes we are number in with people in jail and in military spending. Thats it folks the two number one things. We are spending more on military than the other top 26 which most are our allies. The people on the right are fools because they listen to the lies and never think for themselves. The reason for this statement they are against this bill on taxes that dont affect them if they have insurance, and they are the ones who say personal respondability and I guess they dont care that they are paying millions to billions in health care for the dead beats. What I have heard if true (have checked it out yet) the fine to be collected by the IRS is 95 or 695 per filer. The problem I hear that the IRS has no power to collect it, to lein, to attach your wages so where is the tax and where is the fine. I see the dead beats here and many are the ones who complain about others and this president helping others.

Once again the right wing distortion machine is at it again. There is absolutely no extreme that this group of conservatives without consciences will go to mislead the public. They cannot accept the fact that even the Supreme Court approved of this bill. Problem is that the more that the public understands the provisions of this bill, the more they will like this bill. We are one of the few developed countries that have not already implement a viable health insurance program. Now health insurance will be available to more Americans. To the GOP the glass is always half empty and they live in a world of scarcity. They must fear if more people have access to health care, there will be less for them. Their libertarian ideology of survival of the fittest, is just a sick and selfish philosophy.
