Trillion Dollar Bill: Where's the Tea Party?
Posted by Big Eddie | Wednesday, June 20, 2012
Filed Under: deficit spending farm bill

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Remember when the tea party and the conservatives were against -- and screamed bloody murder about -- the stimulus and Obamacare? Neither of those measures cost as much as the farm bill... almost one trillion dollars. This farm bill has bipartisan support, and the conservatives and the tea party are nowhere to be found. Because their voters, elderly, white, angry, rural voters, benefit from this bill. And their corporate donors in Big Ag benefit too.

So next time some moronic conservative tries to make some inane argument about spending on the stimulus or the Affordable Care Act, remind them of the farm bill.

Its only Socialism, when these Richies are not on the receiving end of something, but the poor are. This bill cuts $90 dollars a month from food stamps for a family receiving them. This bill keeps the AG subsidies going right to the richies, AKA the wealthy Corporate Farms. These people get what they want twofold, and that is why they are not stampeding against it. All the Tea Partyer's come from Red-States, who are on the highest receiving end of all of the programs. I came from one of them, Idaho!

Linda, don;t forget the hours today spent on AG Holden. Unemployment, anyone? Hello? That's why they got elected and not a single act passed. Naming post offices---oh please give me a break. Now they are going on vacation or already on vacation. Gotta get re-elected. Tax dollars at its best!

The Farm Bill just proves that Congress is still segregated. The very lawmaking body that swore to end racial discrimination.

They may as well do like the white and colored water fountains. Just have two boxes in Congress one labeled "White Spending" and one labeled "Black/Minority Spending". It won't be hard to figure out which one gets filled up first by the GOP.

I was watching Jack Cafferty the other day on CNN, I have always liked him, he is not afraid to be controversial. He did some research and as it turns out, Congress has spent more time on naming Post Offices than they have any other legislation.

We've got record unemployment, underwater mortgages by the millions, education getting cut to the bone, but let's spend more time on light bulbs and post offices.

I'm no longer questioning their competence, I am questioning their sanity.

The Tea Party Leaders in North Dakota are too busy getting their pockets greased by the Trillions of our tax payer dollars hiding behind their hypocrisy & big fat wallets courtesy of the Big Federal Government Farm Bill............

Kind of like how Ron Paul is against Social Security calling it unconstitutional while he is on social security "receiving & cashing the checks".............just another blowhard hypocrite!

A point I have been harping on forever. The rich Obama haters want a corner on the welfare market. They got theirs, they want more, they want it all. This is the repub/ tea party. This is who they are. Bachmann grabbed around a quarter million in farm subsidies. She never mentions that in her bug eyed rants. Hypocritical clowns. Don't do as I do.....do as I say .Give them your money ,accept whatever draconian cuts they come up with for YOUR wallet, and shut up.

Cut your throat, vote repub.

I heard that some farmers are given checks to not plant certain crops each year. They may have NO INTENTION of growing that crop all they have to do is say they are and wham---government check! Where is the justice in that? In the meantime, we are cutting more and more assistance to those who actually need it. To digress ---Rachel Maddow had a segment on the Assassination of Dr. Tiller where the protestors were on bullhorns telling the women not to abort their babies and they would give them a baby blanket and take them to the Welfare Office. What a joke! Have the baby, apply for welfare and, oh yeah, we are cutting any assistance we promised you.as the 1% needs in in the form of corporate tax breaks.

PS cut from the poor or working americans and give to the 1% which most of these idiots will never be but sure the hell support the 1% to get more.

I feel for the small family famer who does need our help, but I lived in the Salinas valley for many years and saw many of them go out of business and then they would either sell to or lease their land to the large corporate ag business. This is true in many states and areas. The water issue here in california is an other think I get upset with as most of the farmers are tea baggers=gop and complain about how the enviromentist are screwing them out of water for a fish or a toad or some other critter as they watch the water flow pass their farms to southern californa to fill the pools of the 1% tea baggers=gop in so. calif. Their are farmer who get a big check to grow corn for ethanol instead of growing more food crops. The government needed to help famers years ago but the corporate farms dont need it as most are owned by companies that have nothing to do with farming and are just a part of a porfolio.

I drove thru Iowa and Nebraska the past two summers and saw all the dualie pickup trucks with bumper stickers disrespecting the President or whining about socialism. It seems they have short memories - first WE gave them the damn land free with the Homestead Act of 1862 (160 acres), the Enhanced homestead Act of 1909 (320 acres), and Stock Raising Homestead Act of 1916 (640 acres), then WE brought them water for their crops and livestock with the Bureau of Reclamation, then WE brought them electricity at taxpayers expense with the Rural Elecrification Act, and then WE sent them big checks every year - sometimes for growing or sometimes for not growing crops. The ungrateful farmers complain about socialism - what a damn joke. The ingrate farmers can give the land back or pay todays fair market value for it, close the Bureau of Reclamation and all the damns and irrigation resources so they can go back to fighting for water rights with their guns, repay the taxpayers for the power lines with interest or they will be torn down and the copper recycled, and, oh yeh, send back the subsidy checks from 1921 on with interest too. All the government subsidies that have flowed to the farmers and what did we get - high fructose corn syrup, soy beans, and whining farming corporations receiving welfare. I can't believe that they really believe they are feeding America when they are simply feeding the pockets of the uber-rich Cargills, Archers, Daniels, and Midland. How about a little patriotism and respect for our government plow boy.
