Romney Stands By Freeloader Comments
posted by Ed Staff | Tuesday, September 18, 2012

Mitt Romney was so alarmed by the response to his candid camera moment in which he characterized 47% of Americans as freeloaders, he called a press conference last night. Curious as to why he called the press conference though, because he stood by everything he said.

Romney said "it wasn't elegantly stated," but also that is was "a message which I carry and will continue to carry." The Governor said "I want to help all Americans have a bright and prosperous future," with an emphasis on all. What kind of help does Mitt Romney think the wealthy need to secure a bright and prosperous future? Tax cuts? Aren't the wealthy already enjoying prosperity? Watch it.

The solution might be to pay workers a liveable wage so they don't fall below the poverty line so hard working people don't qualify for assistance?????........but that means less money in the pocket of a CEO & Shareholder.............so it benefits business to subsidize their workers or at least the people at the top...........even a food stamp subsidizes the grocery store to the food grower to the company bringing it to market........and etc...........ripple effect and that money goes back into the treasury through taxes.............

I guess Mitt feels like anyone working at Staples or Sports Authority trying to raise a family is a freeloader..................or is Mitt taking advantage of hard workers by underpaying them so he can get richer???........you be the judge?

Rubio is not eligible to be either VP or Pres due to his not being a natural born US citizen. After what they have done to the President regarding citizenship, that would be a risky move. They would have to amend the Constitution in order for that ticket to fly.

Harold, one more thing. I am from Texas and here is a classic example of what you are talking about. Since we have had the series of unfortunate events of having two brain dead GOP governors in a row, our state has suffered miserably. Yet to listen to the GOP you'd think our state would have been re-annexed by Mexico if it weren't for W and his friend brokeback Perry.

In reality most of the growth of industry and jobs in our state has been brought about by Democratic leadership. How do I know this? Because we have had a Democrat in the state house for 95 percent of our state's history, that's how. Gains in education and our state's infrastructure were made under this leadership.

Had Perry had his way that damned superhighway from Mexico to Canada would have been ramrodded through, talk about disaster.

The GOP are creationists. They like to "create" their own history and account of events that have absolutely nothing to do with reality.

This man and his running mate are spoiled little brats. If either one had to earn an honest day pay doing manual labor they would drop over. The right is now saying that this man should get out of the race and have a ryan-rubio ticket. Lets put a cut and gut radical and lets have a latino to get more votes from the dumb latinos who now will think we are in favor of them. The money people still want these two as they are corporate puppets and that is all the corporate people want. They dont care if the people are getting screwed as long as their profits go up along with they bonus checks....

Harold,

You are right, we do need to address that point. My take on it basically is this, it is classic GOP strategy from way back. When you have no message and a mediocre candidate, you go after your opponent by marginalizing them and dehumanizing them, just as they have done to the President. You conduct a character assassination with slick ads and talking points.

Sadly, roughly half of the American people are just that gullible. They don't deal in facts, like Romney said, they deal in "emotions". "It's us against them". "They're taking all our money and not working for it." When in reality just the opposite is true. Like Ed said most of the benefactors at that dinner are people living on capital gains incomes and paying practically no taxes, the corporate welfare system that was set up years ago. Their businesses have existed on all kinds of government subsidies like the oil depletion allowance, farm subsidies, etc. Those are the REAL ENTITLEMENTS! They didn't earn them. Bain Capital time and again looted the pension funds of these manufacturing businesses, then declared bankruptcy and the federal pension safety net fund had to be enacted, the fund that WE THE TAXPAYER pay for.

This is a message that needs to be gotten out to the masses. The average voter has just not been educated or schooled in economics or any of this. So what do THEY do? They vote on emotion too. "Well I don't like what's happening in the country so I'm voting for the other guy." And they wonder why things never get better under the other guy either.

Harold nailed it perfectly.Three cheers. Mitt is the poster boy of egotistical trust fund children that believe they succeeded by competentcy instead of ruthless heartlessness and the predatory bullying tactics of throwing their wealth around. It just goes to show you fraudulent the GOP ideology really is. Reinstate the Estate Tax at 100% and end the rule of the miscreant children of successful people. Mitt doesn't deserve to be elected - he should be arrested for destroying companies and communities and looting the employees pension and future. BTW - Mitt's dad drove American Motors into the ditch and stole the cash for Mitt's trust fund. Does anyone want to buy a new AMC Rambler? Has anyone every seen a used Rambler in a classic car auction?

The greedy always end up devouring their own. The 1 percent will turn on Romney. Why? Because they don't tolerate losers. He is losing in almost every poll now, with every major voting block except the 1 percent. The swing states are now beginning to show for the President.

I can't believe they didn't see this coming. He was making stupid statements and dumb gaffes as early in the campaign as a year ago.
