State of the Union Facts

state of union

In advance of tonight's State of the Union speech, the third by President Obama, ThinkProgress has put together an amazing list of State of the Union Facts -- a handy primer to have top-of-mind when watching the message with friends tonight.

Here's just a sampling:
  • Since the last SOTU, the economy has created 1.9 million private sector jobs.
  • The top 1 percent take home 24 percent of the nation’s income, up from about 9 percent in 1976.
  • Private sector job creation under Obama in 2011 was larger than seven out of the eight years Bush was president.
  • The top 1 percent of Americans own 40 percent of our country’s wealth while the bottom 80 percent owns only 7 percent.
  • Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, 2.5 million young adults gained health insurance.
Check out the rest of the list at ThinkProgress.com

Pat, I also forgot to mention Holland Taylor wrote and produced the whole show, you can see her interview with Rosie O'Donnell.

Be sure and go to youtube and see clips from the show. My Mom and I went to the one at the 1894 Grand Opera House in Galveston.

Good speech, lots of common sense. I love all the posts. Been trying to answer but my fracking internet keeps dying.. must be the solar flares, or maybe the rapture. Haven't heard much about that since Bachmann, Cain, and Perry, the three chosen ones, dropped out of the race. As Bill Maher said: "God's 0 for 3."

Linda S, I idolized Ann Richards. Would love to see that show, hope it comes to Denver.

Think I'll go to bed and dream about Mitten's tax return... TAX THE RICH!!

Stephen NE Tenn. Sometimes there is only one way to say something. I agree with George Carlin, Words are just words. Its people who have made them what they are.

I am not one bit afraid to say that the" shit", Republicans, need to have all the wax cleaned out of their ears! I am afraid that even that isn't enough to cure what they all have.

When Governor Daniels let the biggest GOP lie automatically falllout of his mouth in the form of the GOP wanting to "save the safety net" I didn't now whether to grab my wallet or ankles. It's election time and the GOP "crock"adile tears are flowing again for the poor "workers" that lost their job when White House OMB budget he created kicked in. I am surprised any Republiklan can say the word "worker" with a straight face. And in classic GOP style, he blamed the President for the 23 months of growth for being too slow without a whisper of the GOP misfits in both the Senate and House

Part of one of my sentences got deleted by my Wife. Can't blame her. It was a little bit of profanity that i shouldn't have even let inside my head!

Mad Dog... Sometimes I should think before typing mad!

And the winner is a repeat for Justice Not True No show. He didn't have the guts to show up and spoke more with his absense than had he been there to personally thumb his nose at the President this year. He appeared ill qualified at his confirmation hearings but everyone seemed too scared or too dumb to ask him if was smart enough to tell the difference between a person and a corporation.

Mr. Mitch Daniels needs to remember that 90% of all of the R.V.s manufactured in this Country are Manufactured in Indiana. The State is famous for the quality and pride these union workers put into every one they build. If I were him I wouldn't want e. They are also good at throwing people out of office for going against "The will of the People". Mitch, You had better look over a couple of states to Wisconsin, because what is happening there might just come over to roost in your State. And he's also pissed off the N.F.L. players. I don't think I'd want those guys pissed off either!

Mad Dog....... People have ways of dealing with legislators that piss them off.... It's called ELECTIONs!!!

Very good speech tonight Mr. President. I would personally like to thank the cameraman for focusing in on the President so that I did not have to see you know who or paste a black sheet of paper on my screen.

Man every time the GOP tries a "counter speech" it is always epic FAIL! Jindal, Bachmann, Daniels, where do they get these people?? That speech was so weak, and he was actually trying to say that we don't need to rebuild infrastructure in this country.

Ok ,does he not get how public works programs work?? They have to be proposed and approved by the government but since government doesn't run it's own construction company, HELLO??? private industry contracts for the business. As in corporate.

Does the GOP need a remedial public works education class??? It is not jobs created by the government, it is infrastructure that will not last an eternity without upgrading and updating!!

One last thing, where were all these GOP people when Bush/Cheney were spending like drunken sailors??? I never heard one iota of a peep out of any of them for 8 long years!

Hope all the keystone candidates were listening tonight. He made them all look pretty much like amateur hour.

Well Mr. Mitch Daniels, I am turning you and your Republican BS off now! Mr. Daniels, who is trying to do what Scott Walker did, by trying to take away collective bargaining rights to the citizens of Indiana! No more!!!!! Excuse me, Mr. shit Daniesl. The President just got through telling us the whole truth! Go away with your lies, now!!! Don't you Republicans learn anything, ever???????

Great speech Mr. President!!! You told it like it is! You drew lines in the sand like never before! You bashed both parties! You told the people what we need to do! You talked about your successes! Hooray!!!! You bashed the naysayers, who say that America is in decline! Hooray!!!!!!!!! You hugged Gabby Giffords! You even cracked a joke about dairy farmers, and spilled Milk!!!!!!! You talked about your foreign policy successes, and about the two corrupt psychopath leaders that are no more!!! You left no stone unturned!!!!! I have never heard you say so many times, that you will not take no for an answer!!!!!!!!! HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM WITH YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
