Trump Slams Verdict in Steinle Murder Case Calls it A “Travesty of Justice”

President Trump criticized what he labeled as a “disgraceful verdict” in the 2015 shooting death of Kate Steinle by an illegal immigrant, a case he used during the 2016 presidential campaign to call for tougher immigration policy.

“The Kate Steinle killer came back and back over the weakly protected Obama border, always committing crimes and being violent, and yet this info was not used in court. His exoneration is a complete travesty of justice. BUILD THE WALL!” The President tweeted early Friday morning following a jury’s acquittal of Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, who was deported multiple times prior to the killing.

“No wonder the people of our Country are so angry with Illegal Immigration,” said in a tweet shortly after the verdict was announced.

While Garcia Zarate was acquitted of murder and involuntary manslaughter charges, he was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
