House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, says Democrats are against a short-term spending bill that is expected to come to the House floor Thursday afternoon.
The current government spending bill will expire at the end of the day on Friday, Congress needs to pass a two-week extension prior to that before moving on to make a deal to fund the government through September.
Pelosi said Democrats are attempting to avoid a government shutdown, but they don’t want to support the short-term bill because it does not address numerous provisions the Democrats see as crucial this year.
“This is a waste of time,” she said.
The Democratic leader said The GOP has the responsibility to pass their own spending legislation because they have control of the House and Senate.
