President Trump said he was “very honored” by a statement Secretary of State Rex Tillerson made Wednesday morning, downplaying a story that Tillerson had called the President a “moron” and was looking to leave his post over the summer.
“It was fake news. It was a totally phony story,” Trump said in response to a question Wednesday from Reporters during a visit to the University Medical Center in Las Vegas. “It was made up. It was made up by NBC, they just made it up. … Total confidence in Rex. I have total confidence.”
Earlier in the day, Tillerson had denied a report that he had wanted to resign his position or that he was talked into keeping his post by senior White House officials.
