Pelosi Says Democrats Could Withold Votes On Spending Bill to Reinstate DACA Protections

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, told the Washington Post on Monday that her party could withhold votes for an upcoming spending bill unless they can reach a deal with Republicans on reinstating Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals protections.

Pelosi said she will “use every possibility” to reach a deal to protect those undocumented immigrants brought here as children.

“We’re not at that place yet,” she told the Washington Post. “Right now, we’re trying to get Republicans to vote on what we believe.”

The Trump administration announced Sunday that any deal restoring DACA protections must include funding for a border wall, curb illegal immigration, and limit the relatives immigrants can get into the U.S.

“I do believe the president when he says he wants to protect the dreamers. I do not think what his staff put forward is in furtherance of that. In fact, it’s endangering them,” Pelosi added.
