Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-KY, on Monday said Sen. Bob Corker, R-TN, is a “particularly important part of the budget debate” and would not comment on Corker’s critical comments about President Trump.
“Sen. Corker is a valuable member of the Senate Republican caucus,” McConnell said according to the Associated Press. “He’s also on the budget committee and a particularly important player as we move to the floor on the budget next week and he’s an important part of our team.”
“He’s an important part of our team and he’s a particularly important part of the budget debate which will be on the floor next week.” McConnell said when asked about Corker’s criticism of the President.
Corker was targeted by Trump after he said he was open to voting against the Republican tax plan if it raises the deficit.
Trump. in turn, claimed Corker had “begged” him for an endorsement and “didn’t have the guts” to run without one, referencing the Senator’s decision not to run for re-election in 2018.
