Senator Takes Issue With Reported Trump Comments About New Hampshire

Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-NH, took to Twitter Thursday morning to express her displeasure with President Trump’s reported comments about her home state.

The Washington Post is reporting that during a January call with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, Trump claimed he won New Hampshire during the primaries because it is a “drug-infested den.”

Hassan said New Hampshire has a “substance misuse crisis,” just like many other states across the United States that are dealing with the opioid epidemic.

“Instead of insulting people in the throes of addiction, @POTUS needs to work across party lines to actually stem the tide of this crisis,” the junior senator added in a tweet.

Trump lost the state in the general election to Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, despite besting John Kasich in the Republican primary.
