Shortly after President Trump said Mexico “will pay” for his proposed border wall and calling them “one of the highest crime nations in the world” the Mexican government said they would not pay for the wall “under any circumstances.”
“As the Mexican government has always stated, our country will not pay, under any circumstances, for a wall or physical barrier built on U.S. territory along the Mexican border,” the statement from Mexican Spokesman released Sunday said. “This statement is not part of a negotiating strategy, but rather a principle of national sovereignty and dignity.”
The statement also addressed the U.S. President’s claims of crime in the country, call the issue a “shared challenge” affected by “high demand for drugs in the United States.”
“Only on the basis of the principles of shared responsibility, teamwork and mutual trust will we be able to overcomes this challenge,” the statement said.
