GOP Rep Files Amendment To Weaken Mueller Probe

Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-FL, has pitched a provision that would make large cuts to resources needed for special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into President Trump’s campaign and the possibility of collusion with Russian officials.

The amendment is part of the government spending bill the House is set to start working on when they return to Washington next week.

The provision would stop funding for the investigation within six months of being approved and stop the probe from being able to look into events prior to June 2015, when Trump announced he would seek the White House.

“Congress should use its spending power to clarify the scope and limit the duration of this investigation,” DeSantis told Politico in a statement, labeling the investigation a “fishing expedition.”
