Sen. Jeff Flake, R-AZ, said Thursday that President Trump may need to rethink his plan for a wall at the United States’ southern border.
Flake said the President and Republicans in Congress need to create a plan to secure the southern border and understand that a wall may not be the most realistic option.
“I think the president and all of us share the same goal: to have a secure border,” he said during an interview on Fox News. “And what we need to do is say, ‘What does that mean? Where do we need fences, where do we need sensors, where do we simply need surveillance to get a secure border?'”
“That’s the goal,” added Flake. “Not to just fulfill a campaign promise of a wall.”
Trump has been critical of Flake ever since the Senator released a book that was critical of him. Trump has gone as far as tweeting his support for a primary challenger of Flake, and reportedly met with two other possible Republican challengers when he appeared in Phoenix on Tuesday.
