Counselor to the President Kellyann Conway said Thursday that the leaks of transcripts of President Trump’s calls with world leaders should have Americans concerned and will have a “chilling effect” on the media.
Conway said that even Democrats critical of Trump were concerned about the leaks coming out of the White House.
“Sen. Mark Warner, he’s a Democrat from Virginia, he said it was quote, ‘disgraceful,’ and we here agree with him,” Conway said during an appearance on CNN.
“Disgraceful that conversations between President Trump and world leaders are being leaked,” Conway continued. “I hope you’ll agree with me, as an American, Chris, that we can’t have leaks of conversations between presidents and other world leaders and feel good about that, and cover the content of those conversations.”
Conway added that the media needs to look at what is appropriate when reporting the latest leaks.
“It should be a chilling effect to everyone today that a president, as Sen. Warner said, a Democrat from Virginia said, often a Trump critic said, governors, senators, presidents have to be able to know they’re having confidential conversations,” Conway said, “and if not our national security is imperiled.”
