Jay Sekulow, an attorney representing President Trump, said Tuesday evening that the president was not aware that his son, Donald Trump Jr., was offered information allegedly from Russia.
Sekulow says that Trump was not aware of the meeting between his son, some top campaign officials, and a Russian Lawyer, until “very recently,” as the story appeared in the media.
“The President, by the way, never saw an email — did not see the email — until it was seen today,” Sekulow said during an appearance on CNN.
“So I want to be clear on that,” he added.
Sekulow, added that it made no sense to inform Trump about the meeting.
“Why would you do that?” Sekulow asked.
He added that Trump Jr.’s decision to take the meeting was not illegal, but might not have been advisable.
“We can look at it and say a year and a half ago, or a year ago, in the middle of a campaign, would you, should have, could you?” Sekulow said. “That’s really easy to say a year later.”
