Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-CA, on Wednesday said President Trump should fire Attorney General Jeff Sessions, but not for his lack of loyalty to the President.
“Well I support President Trump firing Attorney General Jeff Sessions — not for the misguided reasons he wants to fire him though,” Swalwell said during an appearance on CNN.
Rep. Swalwell said Sessions should be fired for not being “forthcoming with the Senate” after he was on board with Trump’s plan to fire former FBI Director James Comey even though he recused himself from the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
“So I think because he was not forthcoming with the Senate, because he was involved in James Comey’s firing, he can’t lead the Department of Justice,” Swalwell said.
Trump has publicly ridiculed his Attorney General for nearly a week, taking aim at him on Twitter and during rallies.
