Sen. Rand Paul, R-KY, on Thursday said he wants lawmakers to separate the Obamacare repeal and replace bills if the Senate’s healthcare bill fails.
“I think if this bill fails, which I think there’s still a chance it will fail, then our backup plan should be, divide the bills in two,” Paul said during an appearance on Fox News.
“Let’s have a clean repeal — what we promised the American people — clean repeal of ObamaCare and if the big government Republicans want to spend a lot of money, they can work with Democrats on a separate bill that spends money.”
Paul was a major hold out in the last round of Senate healthcare negotiations.
This week, he said he would likely oppose the bill that is to be released Thursday.
