Vice President Pence on Thursday promised that the United States will send astronauts to the moon and Mars, a previously unannounced goal of the Trump administration.
“Here from this bridge to space, our nation will return to the moon and we will put American boots on the face of Mars,” Pence told NASA employees at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
Pence praised NASA’s efforts toward “making science fiction ‘science fact,'” and reiterated President Trump’s commitment to NASA.
“The American space program has a champion in the President of the United States,” Pence said, adding that the Administration looks to “usher in a new era” of American Space leadership.
“I can assure you that under President Donald Trump, American security will be as dominant in the heavens as we are here on Earth.” Pence added.
