Senate Intel Chair Says He is “Troubled” By Firing of Comey

Sen. Richard Burr, R-NC, the Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, released a critical statement on President Trump’s decision Tuesday to fire FBI Director James Comey.

Sen. Burr called Comey a “public servant of the highest order,” and said the firing was “a loss for the Bureau and the nation.”

Burr added that he was “troubled by the timing and reasoning of Director Comey’s termination,” and said that he “has been more forthcoming with information than any FBI Director I can recall in my tenure on the congressional intel committees.”

Burr also used the opportunity to share his concern about the future of the investigation into Russian influence on the 2016 Presidential election, which Homey was leading when he was fired.
