Trump Administration Says U.S. will Not Withdraw from NAFTA

President Trump on Wednesday said the U.S. will not leave the North American Free Trade Agreement “at this time” during phone calls with the leaders of Canada and Mexico according to the White House.

Trump Spoke with Canada’s JustinTrudeau and Mexico’s Enrique Peña Nieto to say he would attempt to renegotiate, not leave, the North American trade deal.

“President Trump agreed not to terminate NAFTA at this time and the leaders agreed to proceed swiftly, according to their required internal procedures, to enable the renegotiation of the NAFTA deal to the benefit of all three countries,” according to the White House.

The clarification from the White House comes after news emerged that the Trump administration was looking to announce their intention to withdraw from NAFTA, which he labeled on the campaign trail as a “disaster for our country.”
